Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups prepared mustard (substitute yellow or Dijon if desired)
  • 1 can (6oz) tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar (or sugar substitute)
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1-2 teaspoon onion powder (or 1/2 cup minced onion, sauteed)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

  1. In saucepan, mix together all dry ingredients. Add mustard, tomato paste, and molasses. Slowly add vinegar, whisking till blended. Add water and whisk to blend.
  2. Heat over medium-low heat till hot; lower to simmer and simmer 30-45 minutes.
  3. Cool, then pour into glass bottle or other food safe container.
