Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts, divided
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Coat a 2-quart square baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside. In a large bowl stir together 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon until well-combined. Add apple slices and 1/2 cup walnuts; toss gently to coat. Transfer apple mixture to prepared baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl stir together flour, baking powder, salt and remaining sugar. In a small bowl stir together egg, evaporated milk and butter. Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stir with a fork just until combined. Spoon over apple mixture in pan; sprinkle with remaining walnuts.
  3. Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until top is golden. Cool slightly. If desired, top cobbler with whipped cream or ice cream, and serve.
