An Apple a Day
An apple a day
Apples are round, cruncy, juicy and sweet - but they're not only red. There are also yellow, green, pink and multi-colored apples.
They're packed with nutrients, low in calories and fat, cholesterol-free, and an excellent source of fiber.
Appples are one of nature's nutritional gifts ... and "an apple a day" is still as smart choice.
Storage & cooking tips
Choose firm apples that are free of bruises and gouges. They should have a fesh (not musty) smell. Bown streaks, called scald, don't affect the taste.
Store in a plastic bag in the refridgerator away from strong-smelling foods, so that the apples don't asorb those oders. Properly stored apples have a shelf life of up to 6 weeks.
To keep cut apples from browning, dip into a solution of one part lemon juice and three parts water, or toss with vitamin C-fortified 100% apple juice.
Health Highlights
Apples also contain vitamin C, potassium, and phytochemicals that may help prevend disease and promote good health, including weight management - all in one delicious package.
