Lighter Options for Summer Drinks

Summer is right around the corner and thoughts of lighter, easier to drink options come to mind.  Making us think about what to serve at upcoming graduation parties or summer wedding receptions.  We have many options that fit the bill for these events; I’ve outlined my recommendations below.

  • Bell’s Lager of the Lakes is a great option.  This beer has been around for quite some time but Bell’s has re-introduced it now in a can.  This item had mediocre sales when it was available in a bottle.  Now its sales are soaring with the can offering.   This beer is an all malt, natural Bohemian style Pilsner rooted in tradition.  The hops in Lager of the Lakes are German and Czech Republic Noble hops.   These hops lend aromas of herbs, cedar, spice, and floral.  The Pils malt show toasted grain and a nice light body.  This versatile beer pairs with just about any graduation fare or wedding appetizer. Cans Only Available in MI.

  • Founders Solid Gold is a beer hero is destined to be a legend.  It burst onto the scene in mid-March 2018 and has not looked back.  Although a huge performer, this beer will not overpower your palate.  Solid Gold uses the finest high quality ingredients.  It features lager yeast and utilizes the Lemondrop hop.  There are only 20 IBUs and the ABV is at a low 4.4%.  This makes Solid Gold a perfect pairing for mowing the lawn or swinging in a hammock.  If you are looking for a pairing for Lemon Meringue pie, this is your beer.

  • Corona Premier is another great beer for easy and tasty drinking.  As mentioned in a previous blog, Corona sold 31.8 billion bottles of beer in 2016.  The Corona Premier is the first new Corona in 29 years.  This beer offers a refined and premium light beer experience.  It is smooth with only 2.6g carbs and 90 calories.  This beer has a dry and pleasant finish.  Another perfect pairing for graduation parties or wedding receptions.

How about a wine option?  Our friends at St. Julian Winery in Paw Paw, Michigan added a new wine with bubbles to their already impressive portfolio.  The new sparkling offering from St. Julian is named, Sparkling Michcato.  Only Available in MI.

  • Sparkling Michcato - Joe at St. Julian gave me this quote for Michcato, “this succulently sweet sparkling wine has exploding aromas of pineapple and lemon zest that are complimented by rich layers of melon and tropical fruits that dance on the palate.  This wine pairs nicely with chicken, pork, shellfish, soft cheese, and Asian cuisine. Enjoy for everyday occasions!”  I’m not sure succulently is a word but it sure lends itself to impressive alliteration in his quote.  I am sure this wine tastes great and gives you a great opportunity to drink local.

  • Speaking of bubbles, anything bubbly in the wine category is increasing in sales.  Bubbles are huge in wine right now.  Risata has recently released a new varietal to their line-up of premium Italian wines, Brachetto d’ Acqui.  Available in MN, ND, IA, SD, NE & WI

  • Brachetto d’ Acqui- Aromas and flavors of fresh, fragrant raspberries, with subtle nose of rose petals. Pairs well with chocolate, salads with fresh berries and nuts and BBQ chicken.
